I think everybody knows what a youth-church is. This month it is about 'If God exists, then why there is so much misery in the world'. I can't find a good cover to play... maybe somebody here can help my find a song??

Ill help find the song for you...And that is a really good question, to which I am going to answer that question with a question of my own.

Without misery, how can we truly know happiness?

well I like acoustic songs...but an other song is also good. We would use the song as an introduction, so it doesn't have to give an answer to the question. I've been searching for some time and it is not as easy as I thought it would be :s

That's a very good question you ask Richie, maybe we could use it as a kind of answer...but I don't think there's a good answer to the question why there is so much misery. We just want to let young people know that they are not alone in there misery. There will always be someone by there side in these hard times. And that's the message we want to give to those people. But that doesn't have to be mentioned in the song :) I just need something about misery. :)

You could try the "phone call" or is it "conversation" or something by Bishop TD Jakes and Kirk Franklin.

I don't mean to sound controversial or anything but I think that if you're going to present someone with a topic about why God allows misery then you should be able to give them a good answer or good ways of finding answers from God. God always has an answer for every question, we only have to ask and look diligently in the scriptures and we'll find it. People think that God is responsible for everything that goes on on the earth but that's not always the case. In Genesis 1vs 26-31 God gave dominion to mankind over all that is on the earth by so doing, this meant that even he couldn't interfere with what happened on the earth unless through man. That's why Jesus had to come as a man to save us. The devil couldn't rule unless he used man that's why he coerced adam to sin and (Genesis 3) it entered into him meaning that everyone who would be born of adam would also have a sinful nature coz it was an inherent thing(Genesis 4 vs 1-16). For people who don't know God, they are born sinful and it is the nature of sin in them, their actions and choices they make that create misery for them and other people around them. For those who do, there can be so many reasons as to why its happening, you need to ask yourself really difficult questions like am I in alignment with God's word or not, might this be the reason why I'm in this fix (Proverbs 28vs18). Other reasons are that it has to do with spiritual warfare and you need to pray and speek the word of God over certain situations(2Corinthians 10vs3-4). Remember God works through us, that's why we are his vessels of honour(2 Timothy 2 vs21), and He uses us through prayer and etc. There are so many reasons why there is misery and some that only God can explain and not me or anyone else, that's why the bible says "seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and everything shall be added unto to you"(Mathew vs 33-34) including the answers to your questions. At the end of the day so much but not all of what happens to us is a result of the choices we make, that's why we need to be wise (Proverbs 4vs5) (Proverbs 3vs 6).

Yes I agree with all the things you said. But I think it is difficult to tell young people that there misery is caused by the sin of Adam... It is true, everything starts with that. But I think that will not give those people an answer. When we were working on the youth-church, we talked a lot about these things... but how longer we talked about it, the more difficult it came. Because what do you do with earhquakes and that kind of things, these are not caused by the choice of men, but they also bring a lot of misery. But it is true that only God can give you an answer to these questions, and that is what we will try to bring as message and we will end with a message of hope because one day, when He returns there will not be any misery anymore!! But I am only responsible for the music so I let the others do the difficult part :-)

still searching for a song....can't find the one you said tammy :s

And, oh! I've been down this road before
With a passion that turns into pain
And each I saw love walk out the door
I swore never get caught again

But ain't it true? It takes what it takes
And sometime we get too smart to leave
    One more heartache for me
    Another night of misery

Oh! And oh misery! Oh misery!
Tell me why does my heart make a fool of me
    Oh misery! Oh misery!
Tell me why, why, why, why, why, why does this
heart make a fool of me
    Seems its my destiny
For love to cause misery, oh
    Misery
Guess its all meant to be
For love to cause me misery, oh, no, yeah

    Misery

Shadows are fallin' all over town
Another night and these blues got me down
Oh, misery! I sure could use some company
Since he's been gone I ain't been the same
I carry the weight like an old ball and chain
Guess its all meant to be
For love to cause me misery

    Oh misery! Oh misery!
Tell me why does my heart make a fool of me
    Seems its my destiny
For love to cause me misery

hehe all the the things that you all have had to say are really good and that is also a good answer to my question..And that is also true that God will always stand next to us no matter what happens.. But I believe that the reason that we have misery is to help drive us torwards God..if i recall right it is kind of like the 7 Years of Tribulation...God doesnt want us to feel misery or pain but doesnt he have to sometimes to help us realize that if we have him in our heart we will still have misery but he will always stand next to us and give us the strength to get throught it..no matter what happens. If I am wrong in what I say I would love to be corrected because I am still learning about this stuff.

    God Bless,

    Richie

God never meant for us to be miserable. Why then would He say that He has plans to prosper us and to give us a future with hope (Jeremeiah 29 vs11). Sometimes He does allow things to happen in our lives so that we can learn from them but that's so that He can take us to a higher spiritual place where we can grow. You get muscles by lifting weights right? well that pressure that is exerted on the muscles makes them grow stronger as they resist it. Same with our spirits, we sometimes have to go through things inorder for us to grow stronger in Christ and the more we persevere the more we grow in Spirit and become stronger Christians.

    Lyrics:
So thinking back on it all, it’s like
    It’s a beautiful thing, let’s go
Yo they can’t take it away
Form, they can’t take it away
TobyMac they can’t take it away
Maj they can’t take it away
No they can’t take it away
No they can’t take it away

It seems I was oblivious to it
I didn’t see you lurking in the shadows
One would think the close calls woulda gave you away
But I was stuck in two feet shallow
I saw the footprints and then
Naah, it couldn’t have been him
I wasn’t the type of cat to pray
Perhaps I’ll chalk it up as coincidence
And commence to be my on my way
What makes a bad boy leave his stash cold turkey
And make vanity retreat from purple streets
I guess your rep is really opposite ruthless
You even walked the windy city with Mr. West it’s like

    Chorus
What we got (to my people all over the world)
    They can’t take it away
    They can’t take it away
    No way, no way
    (Repeat 1x)

Some wish to rewind the hands of time
    And erase every mistake made
Others wish to discover the true meaning of life
A mystery through out the ages
Some say that you can’t exist, nah
How can it be when the very air we breathe
Is evidence we all have the capacity to believe
    Without seeing a thing
What made the Passion such a blast
When so many peers left the theaters on the verge of tears
May be your story’s not all that impossible
It’s the fact you bring healing beyond the hospital and that’s why

So it doesn’t really matter what comes my way
Here to shake up the world that’s why I pray
Spread love and let the Son shine bright all day
They can’t take it away, can’t take it away
And if my heart beat stops pace tonight
I’m waking up and staring God in the face alright
So if you feel me get your hands in outta space so high
    They can’t take it away

Yo DJ Maj I got your back on this track for fact
And if it’s me and you or you and me the deck be stack
So tell me why they gotta try and go and do us like that
Don’t they know they can’t take it away
Ain’t no robbing this joy ain’t no stealing this peace
Ain’t no taking our faith as we drop to our knees
They can take it all everything we possess
But they can’t take belief from down deep in our chest I rest
Our Father who art in heaven
    Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done
On Earth as it is in heaven

No Maj (what) they can’t take a thing
    (Sing your song Mac what)
They can’t take a thing away no
Africa they can’t take it away
India they can’t take it away
Arabia they can’t take it away
Israel they can’t take it away

This is also a great song! By Dj Maj

She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
    Until the night

    1st Chorus
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said I'll love her till I die
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby

    (Sing lullaby)

The rumors flew but nobody know how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
    Until the night

    2nd Chorus
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

Would that be good? it is by Brad Paisley

Thanks for helping me to find a song, but the youth-church was last sunday... We played a song of ourself and I think it wasn't that bad :) I could post the lyrics here, but it was a song in 'dutch' , so that would be difficult to read for most of the people here I think :-p

If you want a little impression of it...go and visit the site. (look to "archief")

There are some pics of previous editions of the youthchurch...I don't take they've taken pics this month.

    Hi everybody,

maybe some of you remember me. Well next month we have to do the youthchurch again. This month it's about 'abortion'. I already have some songs in mind such as 'with arms open wide' from Creed and 'Happy Birthday' from Flipsyde, but that last one is a little bit difficult to perform acoustic. I also found a lot of other songs with google but I want something really touching, if you now what I mean. What song would you guys pick?? What song would bring tears in your eyes??

    What a challenge, isn't it? ;-)

(sorry for the mistakes in my english but I'm just a dutch-speaking belgian guitarist :-) )
