Good morning everyone. I am co-leading a new small group (we call them life nets) at my church called "Life Songs" we will meet every other week and the point of the group is for musicians, song writers, poets, and creative writers to come together and worship God through our ideas for new songs.

Our goal is to have a song fully written by the end of the sessions (Mid May) that our worship team can play during a Church service.

I was wanting to get some ideas from board members on things we can discuss during our meetings. I have the "Complete Idiots Guide to Songwriting" and chapter twelve deals specifically with Christian music so we will definately be going over that at our meetings. I also have a "Songwriting for Worship" DVD that we will watch.

we will also discuss songwriting techniques and ideas such as

simplicity (some of the best songs ever written are very simple and only have a few main chords)
    timing (using a metronome)
hooks (that repetitive word or phrase that gets people singing along)

give me some ideas on what I am missing or forgetting. give me some ways to approach the "Class"

each session will be an hour and a half long.

thanks for your help and ideas.
