hey guys, i'm noel from the philippines and i'm new here. the thing is, i just bought a switchfoot album and in reading the lyrics of the songs, i began having second toughts about whether or not they really are a Christian band. I know that i may be a little bit too critical about this, but seeing as how they didn't mention God in their acknowledgements in the album cover, i must say i'm really confused about them. i don't mean to offend the die hard switchfoot fans out there, i just want to know what other people think about them. thanks and Godbless.

    Glitch, welcome to the community.

I think it's our call and duty to be critical of words and lyrics from artists that are claimed or not claimed to be Christian. For Switchfoot, I think it's a different story. I feel that they're a Christian band, but they don't always necessarily write about God. I think that they put out positive music that influences our generation in ways that Christian music can't do.

The secular world is turned off by Christian music because of talking about God so much, but when Switchfoot just puts a positive spin on the music, I do feel it's creating a better vibe for the secular world.

So in conclusion, I do feel they are Christian even if they don't write about God in their music. Looking at their older material, I think the Christian-spin is more apparent.

I remember that one interview of Switchfoot, when they were asked whether they were or not and it became this big deal. I don't remember their answer but I think that even though they should probably make a clear annoucement that they are, that they're doing good sort of hiding it at the same time. Like Jonathan kind of said, if they were really out there about it, the amount of fans they have would drop dramatically because the majority of the secular fans would be anti it

So as long as they keep a positive vibe in their music, they have a pretty good "secret" ministry going on =)

I'm not sure about the whole positive vibe thing. If keeping specific references to God out of their songs gains them a larger fan base, what have they accomplished? The world has morally good ideas and people but good morals don't get you to heaven! Something to think about?

True. But good morals are one step closer than bad morals, are they not?

But I do agree. It's quite a complicated thing. I don't know how many of you have seen switchfoot in concert (i haven't had the chance yet), but if you have, what kind of format do they have? Like.. the fan base gets people there but do they then add some christianity to their performance, or is it just playing?
