I have been asked to speak to my year group (17 & 18 year olds) at out weekly chapel service (compulsory) in about 3 weeks.
But i am wondering what the speak on. Obviously, i will pray about it. But i have many things on my heart that i'd love to speak on, but many may not be of interest to other youths.
Also, it is the LAST chapel service my year will ever have, as it is our last term at school. So i want it to be something they can take with them.
I am interested in what you guys would be interested in hearing if you were them. Keep in mind, it needs to be appropriate for both Christians & non-Christians. Also, i want it something different to the usual "Jesus loves you" "give your life to God" "live a good life" etc...
I think you should speak on humility and giving up /everything/ to God. Like, we're only gonna be here for 60, 70 more years. So 60-70 years more of letting God do whatever He wants with us, no matter how much it hurts, in exchange for ETERNITY of perfection. How amazing is that??? When I expain this concept to my friends when we're talking about this kind of stuff I always really really emphasize how much you have to let go of the /outcome/ of your situation. It's extremely easy to give up your situation and ask for guidance. But usually when we do that, we say, 'if such and such doesn't happen...then i'm giving this to You' and we have to come to terms with the fact that giving up your life to God means accepting the possibility that 'such and such' [[mom finding out about something, losing a friend because you stood up for your beliefs, getting beat up because you stood between a bully and an 'emo' or 'nerd' at school, etc.]] could very well happen. That's ultimate humility, in my eyes. And that's what God wants from us, is complete control of our lives. No conditions.
