I have vague memories of this song when I was a kid, and I would love to find the artist so I could hear the song again. This song was probably released in the early 80's I'm guessing. From what I remember, it was a husband and wife couple that sang the song. The song is from the perspective of one of the thiefs on the cross. He's talking with Jesus on the cross and the chorus goes something like this:
"...forgiven, forgiven, of all of our past....forgiven, forgiven, forgiven at last....forgiven, forgiven, forgiven and free...forgiven, forgiven, eternally."
Then, as the song ends, you can hear the guy singing "forgiven, forgiven" over and over as the song fades out. It's a beautiful song and it holds a lot of memories for me as a child. I would really appreciate anyone's help with this!
Hey Bobby, I am not 100% sure but I think the song you're looking for might be "Forgiven" by the group Silverwind. I know for a fact they were a husband and wife team along with one other person, but I can't find lyrics for that song anywhere. Hope this helps.
Hi Bobby, I just sang this song for my church family today -- I think I remember all the words -- I've kept it in my mind since I was a teenager. Praise the Lord. It goes like this:
Three silhouettes were etched upon the barren sky The sun was high, yet turning black, as if to mourn Hanging there between the worlds of life and death With every breath I cursed the hour that I was born!
I looked down on the crowd that scorned my agony Along with me, each one of them could be condemned! But bleeding (?) there and suffering much more than I The man beside me whispered, "Father, forgive them."
How could he ever forgive them? Why he would want to I did not know. Who was this man who could love them? After the way that they hurt him so?
Without a word he bore the mocking, and the pain, And then I cam to his defence, to my surprise. And when I turned, and asked him to remember me, I suddenly saw Paradise within his eyes!
How could he ever forgive me? Why he would want to I did not know. Who was this man who could love me? After the way that I hurt him so?
And then --- I knew -- he was who he claimed to be. Only One can forgive, and make us free.
Forgiven, forgiven, for all of the past. Forgiven, forgiven, forgiven at last!
Forgiven, forgiven, forgiven and free! Forgiven, forgiven, eternally!
I've the CD Silverwind Gold here, and the exact text is (lines ending with a * are different from Anya's text)

I stared upon this crowd that scorned my agony * Along with me, each one of them could be condemned! Yet hanging there and suffering much more than I * The man beside me whispered, "Father, forgive them."
