Jesus originally appointed 12 to represent each of the 12 tribes of Israel (Jews)-Mark 3:12.

Matthias was named to supply the place of Judas in Acts 1:26.

Paul was called to be an apostle to the Gentiles, in Romans 1:1.

So there is a total of 14.

    egs,
Thank you for your aid! A little more information for our friend, Jesus appointed Paul (also called Saul) to carry His name before the Gentiles in Acts 9:15
I have been spending time studying since I read your comment. Again thank you and God bless. Your math is better than mine :-)
