back around 1979-1981 I heard a song and remembered some of the lyrics, but I dont remember the name of the song or who performed it.

"the lamplighter lived a long time ago
he traveled far, he traveled wide,
he left a little light wherever he would go
and when he spoke, his word would shine"

"the wick watcher was a wretched soul
and he hated all, lamplighters glow....:

That is all I can remember

Any help would be great, as I would love to play the song on my guitar
