back around 1979-1981 I heard a song and remembered some of the lyrics, but I dont remember the name of the song or who performed it.
"the lamplighter lived a long time ago he traveled far, he traveled wide, he left a little light wherever he would go and when he spoke, his word would shine"
"the wick watcher was a wretched soul and he hated all, lamplighters glow....:
That is all I can remember
Any help would be great, as I would love to play the song on my guitar
I found a song that similar to the ones you remember. Please let me know if this isn't it and I will research it again for you.
THE OLD LAMPLIGHTER The Browns
He made the night a little brighter Wherever he would go The old lamplighter Of long, long ago His snowy hair was so much whiter Beneath the candle glow The old lamplighter Of long, long ago
You'd hear the patter of his feet As he came toddling down the street His smile would cheer a lonely heart you see If there were sweethearts in the park He'd pass a lamp and leave it dark Remembering the days that used to be For he recalled when things were new He loved someone who loved him too Who walks with him alone in memories
He made the night a little brighter Wherever he would go The old lamplighter Of long, long ago His snowy hair was so much whiter Beneath the candle glow The old lamplighter Of long, long ago
Now if you look up in the sky You'll understand the reason why The little stars at night are all aglow He turns them on when night is near He turns them off when dawn is here The little man we left so long ago He made the night a little brighter Wherever he would go The old lamplighter of long, long ago
No, the correct song is The Lamplighter, from Terry Talbot (brother of John Michael Talbot). The album is called A Song Shall Rise. I believe it is from 1981. VERY difficult to find. Does not exist on CD.
Thanks everyone, I have found it! I've ordered and have since received a CD copy of the Album, Terry Talbot, A Time to Laugh, A time to Sing. The song called Lamplighter is track 3. And I am moved more now by it then when I first heard it back in the 80's.
