At my church on Sunday night, we started a discussion (or well, it started off as a learning experience and rapidly turned into a discussion) on why exactly we are required to pray.
We had some answers but i just wanted to know what you guys think. :) The general idea is that "God knows our thoughts and feelings, so why pray?"
The disciple asked of Jesus "Lord, teach me to pray?". I truely believe that David prayed through Psalm 51, so I agree with Apologetixfan. However, I was also taught that God's desire is to commune with us. We praise Him not because it's the right thing to do, but because of Who he is. I think prayer is our way of intimacy with God.
Our pastor told us once that God has provided some good avenues to build our relationship with Him. 1.) Through His Word, 2.) Through prayer, and 3.) through circumstances in our lives. And if we're not in His Word, or daily living a life of Prayer, then we find ourselves experiencing God through circumstances only because we failed to be obedient to the other two.
And just another thought, In Ephs 6, when Paul was sharing about Spiritual Warefare, Prayer was a crucial part. I think we pray because we are close to God when we pray. We pray for repentence. We pray in petitions. But we also pray in silence....To Hear from God.
Although God knows the desires of your heart, before you opening your mouth. He instructs us throughout the Bible to pray, in all circumstances. He even promises to answer our requests as long as we don't ask amiss. There are several types of prayer (ie. Thanksgiving, Praise, Intercession, Supplication, Confession, etc.), but they are all designed for you to have a more intimate relationship with Him. It is also a powerful weapon for fighting our enemy-satan.-Eph.6, beginnng with verse 12.
How sad it would be to never hear from your most treasured friend. You are not just His friend, you are a precious child to Him. Prayer is very powerful and important. I'm all for prayer-Hope this helps you.
We really need to pray, I think so. Even if we do not feel anything sometimes. God is able. He does allow it to happen for us to realize something. Valuing our quiet time for Him alone. We need to pray because our soul must be fed if it is hungry by the Word of God through communication. God hears what our heart speaks more than what our mouth speaks. Our relationship towards God must have a daily dose of prayer with faith and love for fortification.
we need to pray, because that is the only way we connect with GOD,that is where we ask HIM all our needs,we give back thanks to the almighty. remind him of all the good things HE promised in HIS word.in prayer that is where we get to say what ever we feel or think, or ask for more GUIDANCE and more WISDOM,from OUR HEAVENLY FATHER.
i believe that praying is our way of connecting to God and with God so that He can have His way in us. that way we will fulfil our destiny in the way he wants us to. it also gives us a chance to talk things though with someone who will not judge us, will love us no matter what has happened. praying is just one part of our relationship with God but it is also a major part in keeping us fit and ready for the spiritual battles we come face to face with everyday. so yeah i believe prayer is very important
prayer is important to one's life(praying to the LORD of course) as it renews our being-especially our spiritual being.Just as egs said, there are several types of prayer.there's praise, worship, thanksgiving, adoration and the most frequently used, supplication.when we practice these types of prayer(and others not mentioned),we draw closer to Him and develop a deeper thirst for Him.furthermore, the pleasures of the world slowly fade away and He becomes more real in our lives.
Prayers are important. Thinking of Our Lord jesus christ, after whom we are called christians, He lived a life of prayers including the forty days in the wilderness, nights of prayers among many other times that He prayed. Considering He was God from God, You can start seeing how much we need to pray. Thankyou.
I think we need to pray because that's the only time we connect with our father and that you could tell him everything that you are dealing with than telling someone else. To me, he's the only person I could trust and talk to.
we need to pray to repent our sins, and to ask him to heal other ppl or help other ppl with w/e they r dealing with.
the church i go to is starting prayer walks, and all the youth r gonna walk the school building and pray for this school year. we need to pray bout a lot of stuff, and everything to help every1 out.
Yeah, prayer is the only way to build your relationship with him. Besides, we don't know all of HIS thoughts, so we need to talk to him to get to know him better, just like talking to your best bud. We had a discussion one night in our youth group about the armor of God, and how important prayer is. Our leader gave us a great (and funny) tip on how to kick satan's butt with prayer.
Whenever satan tempts you, or puts a bad idea in your head, pray about someone going through a hard time in their life. You hit 4 birds with one stone, you pray for someone, talk to God, destroy Satan and make him retreat , and resist tempation by putting your mind on something else ( and more importantly, God!).
imagine if you dont talk to talk to your best friend for a long time.... what do you think wil happen??? your friendship will soon wither... this is the same thing with GOD... if u dont talk to HIM through prayer teling HIM everythin, the bond that you have with HIM will slowly degrade... i have experienced this alot.. when i leave out prayer for even a few days, i'll feel lonely, lost , afraid and that i hav depaerted from the face of GOD... prayer is the way in which we can directly communicate with GOD beleiving that HE is listening!!!!!!!
