I am new to this site but so far I have enjoyed what I have seen. I am a child of God. I believe in obedience to the word of God. It is my life and my relationship with others is based on my relationship with God. My motto is "Do unto others as you would men do unto you".
Let's face it. Man is a being that loves to be in control, self reliant and what I term as "own way". Relying in someone else is just not in some of us nature hence God saying rest in me , it is hard at times. Do if He says do unto others as you would men do to you, is not an easy task. A scenario, someone is quarrelling with you telling you all sorts of indecent things and language, things they dont know about you. What do you do? Do you retaliate and get in a tit for tat. No man, as children of God we are above that. Two things, walk or sing. If you cant walk, sing if you cant sing play some music or pray right there for that person. I sing when this happens. Why? to prevent myself from hearing these words being said and then I pray for the person for God to save them and give them peace. this I do on a daily basis.
Friends, Christianity is a practical thing. It is not emotional. it is faith. Believing what the Master says and doing it with obedience and willingness.
first of all, welcome!!! as to your post.... Very true. The only thing I don't agree with is 'as children of God we are above that'. Despite the fact that we are saved, that doesn't make us any better than those who are not saved. We are still sinners, and not above anything. We were made from dust, we will be dust, the only difference is we are forgiven for our sins and non-christians are not forgiven of their sins.
Sharon is right. We are above that. The bible says to leave our sinful nature behind and to walk in the spirit(Ephesians 4vs10). It says we are new creations in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5vs17) and that we have been set free from sin (Romans 6vs2 read the whole chapter). If that is true then it means that we have overcome sin and no longer need to be conformed (Romans 12 vs2) to it in other words, I don't belong to it anymore. I'm not a sinner anymore because I've been released from sin by Jesus but I am now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus(Romans 3vs22), I am more than a conquerer and I am victorious in Jesus (1Corinthians 15 vs57) and I am made clean and justified by Jesus (Romans 3vs22-24). That's why His victory is my victory. The bible says as He is so shall we be. I was buried with and now I live with Him because He lives(Romans 6vs8). What He went through I was supposed to go through but becoz He did it for me it means that I died with Him and am now resurected with Him and I overcame with Him. I'm dead to sin but I'm alive to God (Romans 6 vs11,14). The reason I'm telling you all this is so that you know what our position is as believers in Christ. We no longer have sin in us becoz we have been made righteous. But that doesn't mean that I should exalt myself and think of myself more highly above those who are not yet saved or over anyone for that matter (Romans 12vs3). I think what Sharon is saying is that we are better than sin becoz we have overcome it and we don't need to give in to it when it knocks on our door. There is a great distinction between the righteous and those who are not saved, read Malachi 3vs 17-18. But we are told to walk in love and not exalt ourselves but to also share the gospel so that others may recieve this salvation, mercy and favour.
All I know is that I'm totally not worthy of God's grace, and I feel like a major hypocrite right now. I'm still trying to figure a bunch of this stuff out, okay? I'm never really going to understand it, and I'm never really going to be good enough for anything or anyone, and I'm never really going to have a chance to be myself, because people simply cannot accept who I am.
But God accepts you and that's what matters more than anything. Read Isiah 43 vs 1-4. God chose you (Mathew 22vs14) and you should believe it (Psalm 139). You were created for His glory. You belong to the most High God! Yesterday the Pastor who was preaching said that we should always be ourselves nomatter what. God created me to be me and not anyone else. He said that we should live our lives for God and God alone becoz once we start living for other things we loose the source of life, energy, strength etc that God is to us and we go spiritually bankrupt at some point later on. It's been something I think God has been teaching me. I see people pretending to be spiritual and wealthy or popular or they just wanna fit in so they become what they aren't. The Pastor said there's no need to pretend to be spiritual just be it, same goes for wealthy, no need to pretend to be humble, just be humble. The bible says "seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you"; I'ts sad becoz what they are doing isn't seeking God at all, its seeking things and hoping that God will be added on to that. Once you begin to realise who you are in Christ, life begins to flow, nomatter what'll be going on around you, you'll have right thinking, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost(Romans 14vs 17). The other thing is that God does wants us to know Him, we just have to seek Him diligently like He says in Hebrews 11vs6. He says to boldly approach His thrown of grace so that we may recieve mercy and find grace to help in time of need(Hebrews4vs16). Everything about God is there for the taking if you want it and if you have faith. Read Isiah 55vs1-2 it's free, you just need faith. I'm not boasting about how well I know God or the bible. I don't know Him as much as I want to or as I should but I won't stop seeking after Him coz I know that in Him is where my true identity is(Colosians 3vs4), that's where my confidence is, my joy, peace, salvation and my acceptance and I will know Him a bit more everyday that I search for Him coz He says He'll reveal Himself to me. As sure as this page is white and these words are black, I'm sure that His word is real and will work for me as long as I believe it.
I've been known to have a lot to say at times. :) Be blessed!
